Persistence – how important is it in supporting my child with a disability? Obstacles will come, there will be times when you don’t see the path, and you feel like what you are doing is not going to make a difference. I have been there many times too. Questioning if what I am doing is really going to make a difference in my child’s life, in his ability to become more self-reliant, is he ever going to become who he wants to be.
The answer
is a resounding yes! You know why? It’s
called time. The process may be painstakingly slow but now I look back and see
all the building blocks that so wonderfully fit together. Time to allow him to come into his own at his
own pace, in his own way, to be who he wants to be. This process is never over
as it is a continuum that moves like breath, quietly, slowly, life
supporting. And me? I watch in awe as
the child turns to a young man and recognizes that he is part of the process
and he is loving it!
